USAID Spends Over $13 Million Towards Reproductive Health Services In Zambia Annually

The United States Agency for International development-USAID- has disclosed that it spends over $13 million towards reproductive health services, including condoms and other family planning commodities every year in Zambia.

Speaking during the launch of the discover-health ultimate condom brand in Lusaka today, USAID health Director John Kuehnle the organisation together with its partners provided family planning for more 2.7 million couples last year, preventing an estimated 750,000 unplanned pregnancies and 1000 maternal deaths.

Mr Kuehnle is also happy that in Zambia, the availability of condoms has doubled since 2014.

At the same event, ministry of health representative Andrew Silumesi who read the speech on behalf of the permanent secretary dr Kennedy Malama says the introduction of the ultimate condom is in line with government’s strategy of propelling Zambia to reach HIV epidemic control by 2030.
