UPND Suffers More Defections

Barely weeks after the opposition UPND claimed a major breakthrough in Chililabombwe their losing parliamentary candidate in the 2016 elections has defected to join the ruling Patriotic Front.

Trudy Ng’andu has announced her defection carrying with her over 140 UPND members to the Patriotic Front.

Ng’andu lost to incumbent Richard Musukwa in the 2016 elections but has joined forces with her former adversary in the PF.

She has cited lack of leadership in the opposition political party among the reasons she has left to join the ruling party.

“We have been like this since the 2016 elections, there is no activity in the party then why should we stay, we can’t only be busy during elections, sure leaders need to outline party activities, I also want to appeal to people in the PF that as we join welcome us, our interest is to help develop this town, government has so far done its best and I want to be part of that agenda,” she said.

Ng’andu has further called for the delimitation of Chililabombwe into two Constituencies.

She said the area is too vast and needed to be divided to allow people appreciate the efforts of government to change the face of Chililabombwe.

“My wish is to see development in this town, I have today decided to leave the UPND because I want to help government in reducing high unemployment among the youth and women,” she said.

And receiving defectors, Chililabombwe Member of Parliament Richard Musukwa encouraged them to feel at home in the ruling party.

Musukwa who is Mines Minister Richard Musukwa further urged PF members to embrace new members by not mocking them.
