UPND Refutes Media Reports That Its Leader Is Advocating For Lesbians And Gays Rights

By Patricia Mbewe

The opposition UPND has described as fake, an online story quoting its leader, Hakainde Hichilema advocating for the rights of lesbians and gays.

Party Spokesperson, Charles Kakoma says at no time did Mr. Hichilema grant an interview with the Associated Press in Italy or leave the country to attend an international conference as is being reported where he is alleged to have issued a statement supporting gay rights.

Mr. Kakoma accused the Patriotic Front of being behind this story and is a scheme to divert public attention from the escalating high mealie meal prices and electricity black outs currently being experienced in the country.

He has told Phoenix News that Mr. Hichilema is an upright man who supports Christian values and strongly believes it is immoral and unbiblical to allow same sex marriages or gay and lesbian rights.

But PF Media Director, Sunday Chanda has insisted that the UPND is a member of Africa Liberal Network (ALN) an organization of 44 liberal political parties from 30 countries in Africa which promotes equal rights for all and defend human rights world-wide including rights of lesbians, gay, bisexual, non-binary and intersex.
