UPND mourns Sesheke MP

UPND says the passing on of its Sesheke member of parliament Frank Kufakwandi is a double tragedy to the party. Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba disclosed that Kufakwandi died in the early hours of Monday. Government evacuated Kufakwandi last month and he had been receiving specialist treatment at Arwyp Medical Centre in Johannesburg.

Masiliso, Kufakwandi’s wife, was at the bedside when he passed on. High Commissioner Mwamba, who had earlier visited Kufakwandi, said the late legislator had a cardiac condition. He said the passing on of Kufakwandi, whom the government had hoped would overcome his illness, saddened him. High Commissioner Mwamba said details regarding the repatriation of the body would be communicated later. UPND president Hakainde Hichilema said the passing on of Kufakwandi was a double tragedy as the party had lost two members of parliament from the Western Province within a short space of time.

It is with great sadness and sorrow to announce the passing on of our Sesheke member of parliament Honourable Frank Simona Kufakwandi. Honourable Kufakwandi died in the early hours of this [yesterday] morning in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was receiving medical treatment, said Hichilema. As a party, we shall greatly miss his immense contribution and dedication to the country where he was representing our great people of Sesheke. On behalf of the entire UPND family, we send our sincere condolences to the family of Honourable Kufakwandi and the people of Sesheke Constituency. For us, it is a double tragedy to have lost two members of parliament within such a short space of time from Western Province. We place everything in the mighty hand of our God during this trying moment.

On August 28, UPND lost its Mangango parliamentarian.

Naluwa Mweene died in a road accident at Itezhi tezhi turn off on the Lusaka-Mongu road.
