UPND adopts Mukata’s concubine in Chilanga

The opposition UPND has adopted jailed former Member of Parliament Keith Mukata’s concubine Charmaine Musonda as  it’s candidate for Chilanga by-elections.

Charmaine Musonda was arrested with Mukata and jointly charged with murder. She was with Mukata when he shot dead his guard at his office in the night but she was acquitted by the High Court.

The development has excited the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) who have charged to de-campaign the UPND using the murder case.

The adoption has also not been received well by some UPND cadres who are also accusing Ms Musonda to have broken the marriage of Mukata and his wife.

“I’m a great believer that the supreme quality of anybody aspiring for political office is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether the person wins today. In the long run things will fall apart.

As a person who champions honesty and integrity in those aspiring for political office.
I have distanced myself from UPND over the Chilanga adoption.Nevertheless, I wish both the candidate and party well. And will continue supporting them in other endeavours, just not on this one. Home-wreckers are not my things,” stated Musamba Mumba a UK based UPND Supporter.

Hakabwebwa Mwaya said, “the last thing the people of Chilanga want is to associate themselves with is Keith Mukata’s name. Why pick someone who will be reminding the electorate of terrible circumstances under which the past MP was incarcerated? This is just so WRONG.”

But UPND insiders say the party is playing at getting sympathy vote from Chilanga residents following the conviction and sentencing to death of their former MP.
