UNZA INCREASES BED SPACES

The University of Zambia -UNZA- Management has create an additional 600 bed spaces in a bid to curb squatting.
This is in addition to 3,800 bed spaces.
UNZA Dean of Student Affairs Lastone Zgambo says the bed spaces have been created under phase one of the newly introduced bunker beds in the Hostels.
Mr Zgambo says Once the project to introduce banker beds is complete the institution will have at least 7,000 bed spaces.
He explained that the project is due to the directive by the Minister of Higher Education Nkandu Luo that UNZA Management brings an end to squatting.
Mr Zgambo said this in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka.
The Dean of Student Affairs explained that the banker beds are being made by UNZA’s Technology Development and Advisory Unit (TDAU).
Mr  Zgambo said once the project is complete, rooms that could initially hold only two students will be able to accommodate more students.

He said the learning institution currently has more than 14,000 students staying on campus despite inadequate accommodation.

Mr. Zgambo however said squatting is illegal and will be addressed.
