UNIP Irked By Rising Number of Political Parties

The United National Independence Party, or UNIP, in Northern Province says the mushrooming of political parties is a threat to the unity and development of the country.

UNIP Provincial Chairperson, Freedom Kafunda says there is need for political party leaders to seriously give a thought to the unprecedented number of political parties in the country.

Mr. Kafunda notes that in all developed countries, there are only four to five political parties.

There are currently more than thirty registered political parties in Zambia out of which less than ten are active.
