Unemployed Doctors Disappointed With The Resident Doctors Association Of Zambia Leadership

By Michael Kaluba

Representative of the 189 Doctors who recently protested in Kitwe demanding employment, Dr. Wallace Ndumba has taken a swipe at the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia President Dr. Brian Sampa for allegedly distorting facts relating to their matter.

After their protest in Kitwe, Dr. Sampa issued a media statement disowning the 189 doctors and their protest prompting Dr. Ndumba to wonder why the association has leaped to the defense of the government when it has been quiet about this matter.

Dr. Ndumba explains that under the previous regime, around 500 doctors protested demanding employment, and the government with support from the World Health Organization-WHO- and the World Bank, managed to employ 311 leaving the 189 with a promise that they would also be employed in the 2021 national budget, promises that have not been fulfilled.

He tells Phoenix News that there was an assessment of the situation by the UPND as a party before the august general elections, who also assured the unemployed doctors that they would get employed this year after the new dawn government was in place, a position that has since changed prompting the recent protest.

Dr. Ndumba has reaffirmed the doctor’s commitment to their cause and resolve to match to state house should government fail to address their matter within a week.
