Tokota Boys Gang Members Raise Torture Claims in Court

Incarcerated gang members of the violent Tokota Boys have complained of being brutally tortured by officers from the Zambia Correctional

Facilities as they wait for their committal to the High Court at Kitwe’s Kamfinsa Correctional facility.

Appearing before Chief Resident Magistrate Yvonne Nalomba for mention, the 19 complained that they have been subjected to inhuman conditions at the correction facility and have been denied medical care.

The notorious gang members are being kept at Kamfinsa Correctional Facility due to the nature of their case which is none bailable.

They told Magistrate Nalomba that they are being brutally tortured while they are asked to recycle the phrase ‘I am a Tokota’.

And Magistrate Nalomba has urged prison authorities to investigate the claims stating that it was wrong to ill-treat the gang members as they are still before court.

Facts before court are that on April 30, in Kitwe, the 19 did, jointly and whilst acting together with intent to maim, injure or disfigure, caused grievous harm to Cuthbert Nkonde.

In count two, the 19 accused persons are charged with unlawful wounding and poisoning contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

Allegations are that on April 30, in Kitwe, the accused jointly and whilst acting together with intent to injure or annoy, caused Cuthbert to eat his faecal matter.

In count three, they are charged with kidnapping or abducting in order to subject a person to grievous harm contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

Allegations are that on the same date in Kitwe, the accused jointly and whilst acting together kidnapped Cuthbert in order to put in him danger and to subject him to grievous harm.

She has since set July, 9th 2018 as date for mention as Court waits instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to take the matter to the High Court were they will tried.
