Tickets for U-20 AFCON opener sold out

Tickets for the Zambia versus Guinea opening match of the Total Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations which will be played at the 60,000-seater Heroes Stadium in Lusaka have sold out

And the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has expressed delight at the overwhelming response from members of the public, disclosing that it has been flooded with inquiries over ticket sales.

There were initial concerns from fans and other stakeholders over the perceived lack of publicity around the tournament but they have clearly been dispelled by the complete sale of tickets for Match Day One.

This, according to the country’s soccer governing body, is an indication that people were well informed, further urging fans to buy tickets for other matches.

“We wish to confirm that all the tickets for the opening day have been sold out but however encourage fans to purchase tickets for upcoming matches,” said FAZ communications manager.

“The Football Association of Zambia would also like to encourage Zambians to buy tickets for other matches and enjoy a complete feel of the tournament.”

And in a bid to prevent the black market from cashing in via selling of tickets at inflated prices, FAZ has restricted the number of tickets to be sold to an individual to five.

“FAZ wishes to inform members of the public that fans will not be allowed to buy more than five tickets per individual.

“It has come to our attention that some fans have been bulk buying tickets for the sole purpose of re-selling them at an exorbitant price. This is not only illegal but also against the spirit of fair play which is an important principle in the football world.”

The tickets are being sold across Shoprite outlets throughout the country and FAZ has advised fans not to crowd themselves in particular designations.

The opening fixture, which will kick off at 15:00 hours, is expected to be graced by Republican President Edgar Lungu.
