The Petroleum Transporters Association Of Zambia Warns Foreign Fuel Suppliers Disregarding SI 35

By Tinkerbel Mwila

The Petroleum Transporters Association of Zambia has warned Othniel Brooks, one of the government contracted fuel suppliers to respect the Zambian people after the firm allegedly refused to give 50% volume to Zambians.

Association Secretary-General Benson Tembo has disclosed that the company is refusing to give 50% volume to the Zambian citizens as stated in the recently signed new Statutory Instrument No. 35 of 2021 citizens’ economic empowerment transportation of heavy and bulk commodities by road regulations, 2021 by President Edgar Lungu.

Mr. Tembo tells Phoenix News that the association feels the motive of Othniel Brooks is to frustrate government efforts aimed at bringing sanity in the supply of finished petroleum products in Zambia and to make the government look bad in the eyes of the local suppliers.

He has accused the named local oil marketing company of also engaging only foreign nationals who have companies registered in Zambia and is therefore appealing to the Ministry of Energy to summon Othniel Brooks and compel them to put the interests of Zambian citizens first by complying with the signed SI.
