Secretary To Cabinet Calls For Compliance By All Heads Of Accounting Units In Government To Austerity Measures

Secretary to Cabinet, Dr Simon Miti has implored the office of the Accountant General to monitor levels of compliance by all heads of accounting units in government to austerity measures.

Addressing Directors of Finance and Heads of Accounting units in Ministries in Lusaka today, Dr Miti said cabinet has observed serious financial mismanagement in ministries which have affected effective service delivery.

Dr Miti who was represented by Deputy Secretary to Cabinet, Christopher Mvunga said going forward, cabinet expects accountants to provide informative reports and accurate accounting information timely to facilitate decision making that will result in compliance to austerity measures.

Dr Miti has since urged accountants to play an advisory role in the allocation of public resources during the budgeting process to ensure attainment of more institutional performance outputs with optimal allocation of resources.
