RTSA secures 1,950 convictions in the Lusaka Fast-Track Court on traffic offences

THE Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) says it secured 1,950 convictions in the Lusaka Fast-Track Court on traffic offences in the third quarter of 2019.
And the agency said the highest convictions during the period under review were for Expired Test Certificate with 205 convictions, Expired Road Tax with 283 convictions, Dangerous Driving with 215 convictions, and use of handheld Mobile phone while driving with 102 convictions.
RTSA Head of Public Relations Frederick Mubanga also said Unlicensed Driver accounted for 71 convictions and Expired/Uninsured Motor Vehicle with 45 convictions.
“Other offences that resulted in convictions were, use of unregistered motor vehicle, failure to wear obligatory seatbelt, failure to obey traffic lights, expired identity, careless driving, unauthorized use of goods vehicle and exceeding number of passengers,” Mubanga said.
Mubanga stated that statistics have shown that dangerous driving and use of mobile phones while driving continue to be major contributors of road traffic accidents in the country.
He reminded members of the public that the agency will sustain its traffic law enforcement patrols countrywide in order to ensure total compliance among motorists and ensure safety for all road users.
