Rhumba Star Koffi Olomide Faces Resistance On Zambia Visit

Koffi OlomideRumba maestro Kofi Olomide’s trip to Zambia at the forthcoming Agricultural and Commercial Show will provide a tough test for the organizers after he ran himself into trouble in Kenya following an assault of one of his dancing queens.

In Zambia the police in Zambia have been dragging their feet after the singer kicked freelance photojournalist Jean Mandela during one of his tours in Lusaka two years ago.

Despite Mandela having put his case before the police in Zambia, the law enforcement agencies have turned the other way.

However, a more resolute Kenyan police has arrested the musician with the country’s parliamentarians petitioning for his deportation.

In Zambia the Non Governmental Coordinating Council has challenged the Agricultural and Commercial Show organizers to cancel Olomide’s invitation to perform at the event.

NGOCC executive director Engwase Mwale said Olomide’s actions was an insult to women and deserved action.

The Zambia Association of Musicians has also joined calls for Olomide’s invitation to be cancelled.

Olomide was captured on camera beating one of his dancing queens at Jomo Kenyatta Airport in a video that has since gone viral on social media.

Meanwhile, the Agricultural and Commercial Show Society of Zambia will roll the red carpet for Rumba king Koffi Olomide when he graces the event despite the controversy surrounding his battering a dancing queen in Kenya.

In Kenya Olomide has had the police arresting him for his act that adds to his litany of violent incidents.

There had been voiced concerns in Zambia for his invitation to be cancelled but the show society that has him as the top offering on their entertainment bill has put their weight behind him.
