Reject Lawlessness, Lawyer Kabwe calls on Zambians

LUSAKA lawyer Hobday Kabwe has urged Zambians not to entertain politics that threaten peace and security of the country.
Mr Kabwe said the appetite to assume power should not be this insatiable and the stakes should never be to assume governance at all costs even at the expense of loss of a life.

“I have watched with utter alarm and dismay at the recent level of lawlessness descending in the conduct of our politics,” he said.
Mr Kabwe said anybody dissatisfied with the issuance of permit relating to holding of political rallies and any other public processions has the ultimate recourse to judicial review.

He said the late Michael Chilufya Sata would do always resort to the law such as in 2005 when the PF had complained against the postponement/cancellation of their rally in Lilanda ,a lawyer acting on behalf of the Patriotic Front and Mr.Sata; Mr.Bonaventure Mutale,SC issued a Judicial Review.

Mr Kabwe said the Attorney General (AG) then through Sunday Nkonde SC conceded to the rights of Mr Sata and both parties settled for a Consent Judgment that allowed the PF to hold their political rallies without hindrances.

“This is the lawful way to resolve such any grievance evolving from issuance of permits or notices. It is a matter of concern when political parties begin to resist the order and direction given by the Police as the United Party for National Development(UPND) did last week,” he said.

Mr Kabwe said it a serious act of lawlessness that should be condemned by all and consequences emanating from such a breach should not escape apportioning blame on this route of lawlessness chosen by the UPND.

He said the loss of life from this careless political action remains regrettable.
