PUBLIC PROTECTOR’S OFFICE CRITICIZED FOR BEING INACTIVE

Community Action Against Corruption has observed with concern that the Public Protector’s Office has allegedly failed to protect the rights of citizens against the excesses of the executive arm of government and unprofessional conduct of many government institutions since its establishment.

Organization Chief Executive Officer Brightone Tembo has charged that this office has been very passive from the time it was created.

Mr. Tembo is of the view that Zambia was not ready for the creation of the office of the public protector and that it’s creation was done in a haste manner to satisfy the demands and taste of the international community.

He has since called on the office of the Public Protector to justify its existence in Zambia so that Zambians can know the value which the office has added to the protection of people’s rights from its inception.
