Proflight launces Kuomboka special

Proflight Zambia is putting on three special flights to Mongu for travellers to the annual Kuomboka ceremony in Western Province this weekend.

The service aims to encourage more tourists and local people to celebrate the cultural highlight of the Lozi calendar on Saturday, April 8.

“The Kuomboka is the highlight of the Lozi cultural calendar and a spectacle for local and international tourists alike. Proflight recognises its importance and hence we have added these special flights to help promote the occasion and join with the local people in celebrating this exhilarating cultural experience,” said Proflight’s director of government and industry affairs Capt. Philip Lemba.

The one-day Kuolmboka ceremonial event takes place at the end of the rain season and sees the Litunga, who is the Lozi King, sail in the large boat known as the Nalikwanda from the lower plains called the Leului to the higher-ground royal palace called the Limulunga. It is among the largest ceremonies in Zambia and attracts increasing number of both local and international tourists.

“I urge all Zambians to come out to support this year’s Kuomboka Ceremony, there is no need to worry about distance and time as we have introduced our special flights beginning on the 7th unto the main day which is the 8th and the 9th of April which will allow travellers to return home in good time,” said Capt. Lemba.

The airline will be flying from Lusaka to Mongu on Friday, April 7 at 14:30hrs and the day of the ceremony itself at 07:10hrs; with a return flight from Mongu to Lusaka on Sunday, April 9 leaving Mongu at 09:00hrs.

The 1 hour-35 minute flight from Lusaka to Mongu compared with a600km road journey that takes 8 hours.
