Presidential Nominations to be held at Mulungushi

The Lusaka’s Mulungushi International Conference Centre- MICC is the new National nomination centre, the ECZ has announced. Previously the Presidential Candidates did their nomination at Supreme Court.

During the Presidential Candidate briefing at Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka, the ECZ Deputy Director Chomba Chellah announced that: the Supreme Court was previously being used because the Returning Officer of the Presidential Elections was the Chief Justice.

“The Constitution Amendment, Act 2 of 2016 has introduced some new clauses which shall make this election different from the ones we held previously” he said during his presentation to the media and Presidential Candidates.

“The Act introduces 50+1 clause; guides us on the disqualification of any candidate who holds dual citizenship and places the ECZ Chairperson as the Returning Officer,” Mr.Chella presented.

“Therefore the Nomination centre is no longer supreme court but Mulungushi International Conference Centre, this is so because the Returning Officer of this Elections is not the sitting Chief Justice. The law has now been amended and empowers the ECZ chairperson to preside and execute every duty of the elections’’
