President Lungu swears in Patrick Matibini as Speaker

PRESIDENT Edgar Chagwa Lungu has sworn-in Rt Hon. Justice Dr. Patrick Matibini, SC as Speaker of the National Assembly.

The President has also sworn in the First Deputy Speaker Catherine Namugala and Second Deputy Speaker Mwimba Henry Malama, MP.

The President swore in the Speaker, the First and the Second Speakers following their election at the National Assembly today where the Returning Officer Clerk of the National Assembly Doris Mwinga declared the trio duly elected, unopposed.

At the Swearing-in-ceremony at State House, the President assured the Speaker and Members of the National Assembly the full enjoyment of the rights and privileges accorded to them under the Law.

President Lungu also assured that He shall freely avail Himself to the Members and would be able at all times interpret their words and actions in the most favourable manner.

The President made these remarks in response to the Speaker’s petition presented to Him requesting for the rights and privileges of the Members of the National Assembly in accordance with the Law.
