Pres. Lungu To File On Thursday

The filing of nominations for presidential candidates is expected to start today according to the schedule by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

While other political parties are yet to furnish the ECZ with the preferred dates for their presidential candidates, the ruling Patriotic Front will file their nomination on Thursday between 09:00 and 11:00 hours.

President Edgar Lungu will be joined by his running mate Inonge Wina with the opposition United Party for National Development’s Hakainde Hichilema following suit on Friday.

The UPND has yet to reveal its running mate but will have no choice on Friday as it is part of the requirement at filing that a running mate does the same.

UNIP’s Tilyenji Kaunda will file on Wednesday on the same day with Rainbow Party’s Wynter Kabimba.

The ECZ has just concluded verification of 100 requisite supporters for presidential candidates per province.

Ten political parties have satisfied the criteria having paid either the full amount or half toward the nomination fees.
