The Non-governmental Gender Organisation Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has charged that political parties are taking advantage of the constitution’s silence on the need to have a gender balanced leadership to sideline women from assuming high party positions.

NGOCC Executive Director Engwase Mwale tells QTV News that this development is disadvantaging women with the ability to lead political parties at higher levels with due diligence.

She says despite possessing the adequate capacities many woman in political parties have been relegated to lower positions because the country has no deliberate policy to compel political parties to balance gender in top leadership positions.

Ms. Mwale has since challenged political parties to consider opening up opportunities for women to exhibit their political leadership skills.

The NGOCC Executive Director adds that there are a lot of women ready to serve in senior party positions but that they are not given the chance to do so.
