POLICE: Three people die in separate traffic accidents

THREE people have died on the spot in three separate road traffic accidents in Southern, Eastern, and North Western Provinces.Police Public Relations Officer Esther Katongo has confirmed the development in a statement to Mwebantu.She said the first accident occurred in Eastern Province where a 13 year old boy identified as Davy Ngulube who was a passenger on a tractor, died on the spot while eight others sustained injuries at Kasusu area, 32 kilometers east of Nyimba Boma on Great East road.Katongo said the accident happened when the driver of a Toyota Hilux registration number APB 3804, Sikombe Mukuka aged 58 of Bauleni Compound in Lusaka with four passengers on board tried to overtake a tractor registration number BAA 7913 driven by Francis Lungu aged 42 of Kapotwe village of Nyimba District but failed as there was an oncoming truck and in the process hit into the tractor.“The injured that include both drivers were rushed to Nyimba District Hospital for medical attention while the body of the deceased is in the same Hospital mortuary,” said Katongo.Meanwhile a pillion in Southern Province has died on the spot in an accident which happened at about 17:00 hours nine kilometers north of Batoka on Great North road.Katongo said the accident occurred when the driver of the motor vehicle Scania Truck registration number CH 06 PW GP driven by Franco Simoonga aged 50 of Dambwa Compound in Livingstone misjudged clearance distance and in the process hit into an unregistered motor cycle which was being ridden by Luckson Hampuma aged 44 carrying a pillion Boyd Mulako Lishomwa aged 35.She said the pillion died on the spot while the rider sustained minor injuries and his body is in Choma General Hospital mortuary.And in North Western Province, an unknown pedestrian died on the spot while six others sustained serious injuries after they were involved in an accident which happened around 18:30 hours at Kiawama round about in Solwezi.She said the accident happened when the driver of a Mitsubishi Rosa Bus registration number ALX 6026 lost control of the motor vehicle and went off the road and further hit six pedestrians who were standing off the road.Katongo said one pedestrian died and five others were left injured and were rushed to Solwezi General Hospital for medical attention.And Katongo says the driver is on the run while the motor vehicle involved was set ablaze by an angry mob.She said the body of the deceased is in the above mentioned Hospital mortuary.
