Police stop public meeting on Referendum

The Zambian Police has forced the Grand Coalition and its partners to cancel a public meeting on the Referendum.

According to the meeting convener, human rights activist Sara Longwe, police have not granted a permit to the organizers of the event hence the postponement.

The meeting which is dubbed the relevance of a referendum was scheduled to take place on Saturday May 11, 2016 between 14 hours and 17 hours, at NGOCC premises on Nchoncho road, which is between Lumumba and Chandwa Musonda roads.

Zambian is holding a referendum on the Bill of Rights alongside the General elections as the Referendum is the only prerequisite road map by which the ACT can become law. The question on the Amendment to enhance the Bill of Rights and Repealing of Article 79 has already been unveiled and the citizens are to vote either Yes or No.
