By Phoenix Correspondent

The Southern Provincial Administration has instructed the Zambia police and other security wings in the region to confiscate mealie meal being sold at an exorbitant price and flash out black market traders selling the commodity at over K200.

Addressing Provincial heads of government departments in Choma, Southern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Kennedy Mubanga said government has given the province’s leading milling company Choma milling twelve thousand five hundred thousand metric tonnes of maize to produce enough mealie meal for their customers.

Mr Mubanga says government will therefore not entertain any artificial shortages of mealie meal created by black market traders.

Some parts of southern province had run out of mealie meal during the close of last weekend after Choma milling company ran out of maize.

Government has since released 12500 metric tonnes of maize to Choma milling in trying to address the shortage.
