Police IG Presents Medals To Families Of Fallen Peace Keeping Officers

The Inspector General of Police, Mr Kakoma Kanganja today presented medals to the families of late Inspector Bright Sikalinda and Sergeant Naomi Zulu who died whilst serving in piece keeping mission on 29th July, 2017 and 9th April, 2017 respectively.

The Inspector General said whilst attending the UN Chiefs of Police Summit held from 20th to 21st June, 2018 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, he was presented with the Dag Hammarskjold medals in recognition of the late officer’s service to the United Nations African Union Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).

The medals which were awarded posthumously to the late Zambia Officers by UN Secretary General, António Guterres, on 29th May, 2017, during the UN Peace Keepers day were received by the Inspector General of Police on behalf of the late officer’s families.

Currently, Zambia has 114 officers in three different Missions namely United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), United Nations African Union Hybrid Mission in Dafour ((UNAMID) and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

The female officer was representing the family of late Naomi Zulu while the other person was representing the family of late Bright Sikalinda’s family.
