Police Engage Mtendere Community over Criminal Gangs

The Zambia Police war against criminal gangs took them to Mtendere where they interacted with the community.

Zambia Police held a community consultative meeting where focus areas where identified between the police and the community.

Criminal gangs have become the mainstay in Zambian communities with the Copperbelt leading the notoriety list but Lusaka has also had its problems.

 

FULL STATEMENT:

 

LUSAKA, 30th June, 2018- In a quest to make communities safe and free of gangsters, the Zambia Police Service this morning held a police/community consultative meeting in Mtendere/Kalingalinga Compounds.

 

The meeting went on successfully and key security and community safety issues were discussed.

Some of the notable resolutions of the meeting included:

 

(1) Improved community participation in Policing Mtendere/Kalingalinga

(2) Revamping the operations of Community Neighborhood Watch Associations in the area.

 

(3) Devising effective communication strategies between the police and the community.

 

In attendance were  representatives from the Drug Enforcement Commission, schools, churches,bar owners,sections/ zone chairpersons, youth groups and many others.The area Councillor Mr.Mtonga was present.

 

After the deliberations, the Nkwazi Theatre Club did some performance to educate the community on the significance of reporting crimes to police, dangers of participating in gangsterism and the effects of harbouring criminals.

 

Similar consultative meetings will be rolled out to other compounds.
