Police arrest three Lusaka pastors for theft

RAY HAMOONGAPolice in Lusaka have arrested three Pastors for the theft of money.

Deputy Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says Bishop John Nundwe popularly known as Bishop John General, his wife Pastor Maureen Kakwende and Pastor Paul Kambazo commonly known as Pastor Paul Fire have been arrested in connection with the theft of money belonging 43 year old Matildah Mwanza who had gone to the Bishop Nundwe seeking healing from for a toothache.

In a statement, Mr Hamoonga has narrated that in March, 2016 Matildah Mwanza of Foxdale residential area met Pastor Paul fire in Mtendere Compound whilst she had a toothache who assured her that Bishop John General would be able to cure her in Matero.
He explains that upon meeting the Bishop, Pastor Paul Fire tipped Bishop John General that Ms Mwanza had a cheque of K70, 000.

He says Ms Mwanza was told to spend a night at the Church and whilst there, Pastor Maureen Kakwende the wife to Bishop John General advised her to open an account the following day.

Mr. Hamoonga says Pastor Kakwende accompanied Ms Mwanza to the bank where upon opening an account she was given an ATM Card and withdrew a K40, 000.

He says Ms Mwanza was later told to pay tithe amounting to K21, 000 as advance payment for the next four months to the church while the ATM card remained in the custody of Bishop John Generals wife as the accountant of the church.

Mr Hamoonga states that when Ms Mwanza left for the University Teaching Hospital to access treatment as her toothache was worsening, Pastor Kakwende also left for Kaputa for a month, and upon her return handed over the ATM to the owner who later discovered there was no money in the account.

The three have since been released on Police after spending a night in Police Custody and will appear in court soon.
