Police arrest man for rape of student and murder of CBU lecturer Dr Mainza

POLICE in Kitwe have arrested the prime suspect in the gruesome murder of Copperbelt University Lecturer Dr Maxmilian Mainza as well as the raping of Kalulushi University female student on Saturday last week.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as Chiluba Mwale aged 25 years.
Katanga said Mwale was picked by the police Anti-Robbery Unit on Thursday around 15:00 hrs at his house just when he was about to escape.
“Yes, I wish to confirm that we have arrested the murder suspect as well as the rape suspect involving Dr Maxmillan Mainza. He was arrested around 15:00hrs. At that time he was trying to move out of his house but police moved in quickly and apprehended him,” Katanga said.
She said at the time of the killing, Mwale had dread locks which he later had them cut after hearing that police were looking for him.
“Verification parade was done and he was positively identified by the victim. At the time of the time of the killing of Dr Mainza, he was putting on a dread but on Thursday he went to the barber shop and removed the dread. The person who removed the dread has even confirmed that he had a hair cut yesterday,” said Katanga.
