Police arrest Kambwili

Police in Lusaka have arrested and charged Roan PF Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili with three counts of forgery, uttering false documents and Giving False Information to a public officer contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

And Police have claimed that the arrest of Kambwili has nothing to do with politics, stating that it is purely a criminal matter.

Kambwili, the incoming leader of the newly-formed NDC, arrived at Lusaka Central Police Station around 10:00 hours in the company of NDC secretary general Mwenya Musenge and scores of party cadres.

He was then ushered into the interrogation room while the NDC cadres remained outside the station chanting anti-PF slogans, with one of the cadres carrying a mattress in anticipation that their will be arrested and detained.

Police had to fire teargas canisters to disperse the NDC cadres.

Kambwili was later formerly arrested and charged before being released on police bond pending trial.

Confirming  Kambwili’s arrest, police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katong said: “Police in Lusaka have charged Hon. Chishimba Kambwili with three counts as follows: 1. Forgery which is contrary to section 342, 2. Uttering False documents contrary to section 352 and Giving False Information to a public officer contrary to section 125 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

“As Police, we wish to state that the summoning of Hon. Kambwili has nothing to do with politics as he insinuated when he addressed the media yesterday but that this is purely a criminal matter.”

Meanwhile, police have arrested three NDC supporters and charged them with Conduct Likely to Cause the Breach of Peace.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said the trio caused confusion on church road disturbing the flow of traffic during the time when NDC consultant Chishimba Kambwili was summoned by officers at Central Police.

Katongo said those arrested are Andrew Lupindula, Overt Kasongo and Joseph Chingangu.

And Katongo said one person was injured during the confusion and was issued with a medical report .

She said that police are yet to record a statement from the victim as he was advised to rush to Hospital for medical attention.
