Police arrest couple who allegedly abandoned their two months old baby boy

A COUPLE of Napster area in Chief Bundabunda of Rufunsa district has been arrested for deserting a two months old baby boy.

Details of the matter are that the couple (Esnart Sakala and Lackson Phiri) on 21st August, 2016 at 21:00hrs picked up a fight.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says in a statement that 21 year old Esnart Sakala did leave her two months old baby boy at her neighbour’s home on the said date after a fight with her husband Lackson Phiri and left for unknown destination.

He says the couple was arrested and charged for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

He further disclosed that the Chongwe police where the duo was counsellor by the Chaplin and officers from the Victim Support Unit-VSU.

And Hamoonga says the couple was later released and reunited with the child.

“We received a report of suspected child desertion on 30th August, 2016 at about 10:00hrs to the effect that Esnart Sakala aged 21 years of village Napster, chief Bundabunda, Rufunsa district did leave her two months old baby boy at her neighbour’s home on 21st August, 2016 at 21:00 after a fight with her husband Lackson Phiri of the same address,” Hamoonga says.
