PF, UPND Trade Accusations Over Violence

UPND-PFThe ruling Patriotic Front and the opposition United Party for National Development has bounced off accusations of being protagonists
of politically induced violence pointing fingers in each other’s direction.

UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma alleges that the ECZ is playing up the possible suspension of elections on account of increased political party violence as being a ruse to lay blame on the opposition.

Meanwhile, the ruling PF says the UPND is deliberately stirring violence to have a chance of crying for a place in a possible Government of National Unity.

Kakoma said the ECZ knew who were propagating political party violence and should act on that.

He said that the ECZ did not have the nerve to confront the PF where the ruling party had propagated violence.

“They know who is causing that violence and they should just act and not make such statements,” Kakoma said.

PF deputy information chairperson Frank Bwalya said the UPND had anointed themselves as apostles of violence to arm-twist the ruling party in accommodating them after the elections.

He said the UPND had found out that they had lost grip on the political scene therefore perpetrating violence.

“The UPND is instigating violence because they know that they do not grip on the political scene so they want to cause violence so that they can force a government of national unity,” he said.

The ECZ last week warned that they could be forced to suspend campaigns for any political party or candidates where they were guilty of flouting the code of conduct.
