PF, UPND Spar in Parliament on Mangango By-election

The Mangango parliamentary by-election was cunningly thrown in the fray during Friday’s Vice President’s Question Time with UPND Members of Parliament raising dust over the road works that have been resuscitated in the area while the Vice President parried away the claims on account that the opposition was scaring away contractors.

During the Vice President’s Question Time, Katombora Member of Parliament, Derrick Livune had asked why contractors always mobilized in the Mangango Constituency each time there was an election and de-mobilized once the poll had passed.

In her response the Vice President said they were not playing with the people of Mangango Constituency but committed to developing the area.

Wina said that there were roads that were never part of the Link Zambia 8, 000 but were being worked on under contract financing.

And Wina lamented that negative sentiments against the Chinese by opposition politicians and their sympathizers had made the Chinese uncomfortable.

Wina was responding to a question by Chaseful Member of Parliament Gerald Zimba who alleged that an opposition leader had written to the Chinses contractor to stop the works until after the by-election.

She said that the Chinese were now reluctant to carry on some works because of the strong anti-China sentiments.

The Lukulu/Katunda and Mumbwa/Kasempa have become political talking points ahead of the November 20 parliamentary by-election.

Four political parties will contest the Mangango by-election with the PF fielding Godwin Putu, Mwendoi Akakandelwa (UPND), Yuvwenu Kashando (NDC) and Chenda Kabindama (UPPZ).
