PF IN SOUTHERN PROVINCE ADVISES FORMER PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU TO DESIST FROM ACTIVE POLITICS

By Mastone Moonze

The Patriotic Front-PF- in Southern Province is advising former President Edgar Lungu to concentrate on playing a fatherly role in the country’s governance as opposed to actively participate in politics.

Provincial Vice Chairperson Leonard Siachona tells Phoenix News in Choma that Mr. Lungu had his own time to serve the people of Zambia and that it is high time he allowed other leaders of the party to take up the leadership affairs of the former ruling party.

Mr Siachona says as a lawyer, the former head of state is aware of the constitutional restrictions and consequences if he continues being politically active.
He says government will not be blamed for terminating his benefits as there is a constitutional provision that guides the conduct of former presidents.

Justice Minister Mulambo Haimbe has been quoted in some sections of the media saying former president Edgar Lungu should not be enjoying his benefits since he declared that he is still in active politics, and that the attorney general’s chambers have taken a view on the matter and have since informed cabinet office.
