Justice Minister Ngosa Simbyakula has reportedly become the second PF aspiring candidate to be blocked from filing in his nomination papers for failing to observe time. Higher Education Minister John Phiri also failed to file in in Lundazi Central for the same reason.

According to reports, Dr. Simbyakula was turned away by ECZ officials at Kanona in Muchinga constituency in Central Province after arriving 20 minutes late at the nomination center. He was blocked together with the Kanona ward PF aspiring councillor.

This means that if the ECZ succeed in resisting on-going pressure from the state machinery, the ruling party will lose two parliamentary seats before a single vote is cast.

Meanwhile, the opposition UPND’s Emmanuel Banda and MMD immediate past MP Howard Kunda managed to file in their nominations successfully.

The development has given the UPND leadership in the area plenty of confidence of winning the seat for the first time ever.

“Its just like they have given us a penalty without a goal keeper to save it,” said campaign manager for Muchinga who is also UPND Serenje district chairperson Aubrey Muzaza.

Muzaza said Howard Kunda, the son to the late George Kunda, has done nothing in the constituency since he became MP following the death of his father.
