My wife is too materialistic, Husband tells Court

A 38 – YEAR-OLD husband of Lusaka has told the Matero Local Court that his wife is a materialistic and has no respect him, saying he wanted his marriage dissolved.

Ngozi Daka, a ‘Salaula’ trader of Lusaka’s Emmasdale Township, sued his wife Patricia Mwanza, 28 of the Matero area, on allegations of promiscuity.

The duo has been on separation for two months and together they have no child. Bride price was paid.

Daka said his wife always buys okra and soya chunks despite leaving enough money for food and that she spends all the money playing ‘Bonanza’.

Daka told Senior Court Magistrate Lewis Mumba sitting with Magistrate Pauline Newa that she only stayed well in her marriage for one and half year because every time he differed with his wife, Mwanza would dissert their matrimonial house.

He explained that Patricia was a greedy woman who would never change.

He added that his wife had developed the tendency of going to pastors, who were telling her that him ‘Daka’ was demonic possessed.

Further, he said that at one time, Patricia got distraught when he begged her to stop denying him sex adding that despite elders talking about the fate of their marriage, to the wilderness.

He maintained that all he wanted was the court to dissolve their marriage because Patricia would never change.

But in her defence, Patricia denied all the allegations leveled on her, saying her husband is a provocative and a jealous man.

She alleged that her husband was in the habit of troubling her; despite knowing that she has high blood pressure.

Passing judgment, Mumba granted the couple divorce. Further, the court order the couple to share all the property acquired together.
