Mopani Copper Mines To Pay K20, 000 To Each Ex-Miner Who Recently Left The Mine Under Voluntary Service Separation

By Tinkerbel Mwila

Mopani Copper Mines and Two Mine Workers Unions have settled to pay K20, 000 as ex-gratia to each ex-miner who recently left the mine under voluntary service separation or company retrenchment program.

The beneficiaries are those offloaded as a result of the shutdown of Mindola and Central Shafts.

Confirming the development to Phoenix News in Ndola, Mine Workers Union of Zambia President Joseph Chewe says the union has since written to the ministry of finance to consider a tax waiver on all ex-miners as they start receiving their ex-gratia.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chewe has disclosed that Mopani Copper Mines has introduced Milkit, a drink and bread to replace the energy supplement which miners recently rejected on grounds that it was arousing their sexual drive among other concerns.
