Mongu-Kalabo road traffic accident claims two lives

TWO people died in an accident which occurred on Mongu -Kalabo road on July 16,2016 at about 19: 00 hours at Bridge number five from Mongu hobour.

Police assistant public relations officer, Esther Mwata Katongo said in a statement that involved were six motor vehicles which were moving in the same direction in a convoy as the occupants were coming from a drinking spree at a high speed.

She said involved was Simbotwe Keith (34) who whilst driving a Toyota Spacio registration number ALZ 5966 on Mongu – Kalabo road hit into a cow that was on the road at Bridge number five from Mongu.

Ms Katongo said in the process another motor vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser GX registration number ABX 7154 driven by Chitontozo Zulu(44) coming from behind at a high speed hit into the Toyota Spacio from behind.

She said another motor vehicle Toyota Alteza registration number ALV 961 driven by Peter Phiri aged 32, went and hit into the GX Land Cruiser also from behind and he died on the spot while his passenger identified as Namasiku Vahghseses (42) died from Lewanika Hospital where she was rushed.

“The Alteza went and hit into a Toyota Corolla registration number ABL901 which was parked on the far left by the driver, Kambiwa Chilemfwe (30). Further, another Motor Vehicle a Toyota Alteza ALV 4038 driven by Chimuka Mweemba (33) also moving in the same direction went and hit into one of the vehicles in the accident and was also hit into by Another motor vehicle a Honda Fit registration number ACX 5921 driven by Jurius Kaira(34), ” she said.

Ms Katongo said dockets of Dangerous Driving contrary to section 155 of the Road Traffic Act have been opened for drivers of Toyota Alteza ALV 4038 Jurius Kaira, Honda Fit registration number ACX 5921 driven by Keith Simbotwe, Toyota Spacio registration number 5966 Toyota Hilux number ABX7154 Chitontozo Zulu.

She said the bodies of the deceased are in Lewanika General Hospital Mortuary.
