Mob kills headman on suspicion that he was practicing witchcraft, Police say

A 66 year old village headman in Mwense District has been murdered on suspicion that he was practicing witchcraft.The angry mob set his house on fire and stoned him to death after he attempted to escape from his burning house.And one person has been arrested but police have withheld his particulars.Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has confirmed this to Mwebantu in a statement today.The incident happened on Friday around 19:00 hours at Bundebunde village, Chief Lukwesa of Mwense District.Katongo identified the victim as Goodface Kabungo, also known as Headman Bundebunde.She said after being stoned to death, the victim sustained multiple injuries and died around 22:00 hours at Munushi Clinic.Katongo said the body is in the Mwense District Hospital mortuary while the suspect has been charged with unlawful wounding contrary to section 232 of Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.She said investigations have been instituted.
