MLGH guides local authorities on how to treat street vendors

Local Government Minister Vincent Mwale has issued a Circular to all local authorities in the country providing guidance with regards the expectations of the Ministry in relation to street vendors.

This follows the directive by Patriotic Front Secretary General Davies Mwila to Councils officers to stop harassing street vendors when they are removing them from the streets.

Mr. Mwale has since directed all local authorities to strictly adhere to the contents of the circular.

And Mr. Mwale has directed Chipata City Council of to investigate council officers who destroyed merchandise from street vendors in what he termed as a malicious way.

Mr. Mwale has told Parliament in a Ministerial statement that appropriate action against officers who are in a habit of harassing street vendors will be taken.

He says his Ministry has established a few streets for vending as is the case in other countries.

Meanwhile Mr Mwale says plans to reconstruct the gutted City Market in Lusaka and Kapalala market in Ndola have reached an advanced stage.
