Mkushi arsonist faces seven counts of murder

A 34 years old man has been arrested by the Police in connection with the inferno that last week claimed seven lives in Mkushi District.

Central Province Police Commissioner Joel Njase has confirmed the arrest in a statement.

Mr. Njase has also identified the suspect as Obert Bubala of the same District.

He says the suspect faces seven counts of murder and one count of arson.

Mr. Njase states that the suspect was arrested on Saturday and was whisked away to Kapiri Mposhi Police Station for safe custody from a angry mob that wanted to beat him in Mkushi.

He says the suspect has confessed that he used a cigarette to torch the grass thatched house in which the victims, one whom is his ex-wife, were sleeping.

Mr. Njase says the suspect has also disclosed that he spent four nights plotting how to execute the arson.

He notes that this is besides confessing that his action was an act of vengeance because he was spending a lot of money on his former wife in maintenance costs.
