On the eve of the National Day of Prayer and Fasting the Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs has dispelled social media reports that Muslims, Hindus and non-Christians are barred from attending the event tomorrow (October 18, 2018).

Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs Permanent Secretary Katongo Chifwepa said that no such statement had been issued by her office.

“The Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs would like to dispel social media reports that Muslims and Hindus or indeed any non-Christian religions have been banned from attending the National Day of Prayer, Fasting, Repentance and Reconciliation,” Chifwepa said in a statement.

“The public may wish to know that no such statement has been issued by the Honourable Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs or any government official.”

She said that it was a constitutional right for any citizen to belong to any religion of their choice.

Zambia will commemorate the National Day of Prayer tomorrow (Thursday) with President Edgar Lungu leading the session in Kabwe.
