Mine Suppliers And Contractors Uncertain If Proposed Reforms And Recommendations Made At The Recently Held Mining Indaba Will Be Implemented

By Michael Kaluba

The Association of Mine Suppliers and Contractors has expressed doubt if at all any of the proposed reforms and recommendations made by stakeholders during the recently held mining indaba will be implemented.

This is because the association feels some of the proposed changes aimed at ensuring sustainable growth in the mining industry need to be included in the 2022 national budget despite the need for some to be urgently implemented and for others to be implemented in a phased approach.

Association President Augustine Mubanga says technical matters such as proposed changes in the mining tax regime may need to be deliberated after the elections and once the new cabinet is in place before they are presented as part of the national budget.

And Mr. Mubanga says his association remains hopeful of improved business opportunities after investment projects including the construction of the concentrator at Mopani copper mines are concluded this year for full operational capacity of the mine, currently operating at 70 percent.
