Milenge Town Council Chairperson Fidelis Chanda allegedly commits suicide

MILENGE Town Council Chairperson Fidelis Chanda has reportedly committed suicide.
The body of the 59 year old late Milenge Town Council Chairperson was found yesterday morning at 06:00 hours near Chimese local court in Mansa District in unclear circumstances.
Confirming the matter to ZANIS in Milenge, Luapula Province Police Commissioner Elias Chushi says the body of the deceased was found lying beside his Toyota Rav4, Registration number AIB 6831 next to a small plastic bottle containing what is suspected to be poison.
Mr. Chushi says the cause of his death is not yet known and more details will be availed once police conclude their investigations.
And Milenge District Commissioner Kunda Chibilo has described the sadden death of the Council Chairperson as shocking to the district.
Mr. Chibilo has since called on Milenge residents to stay calm and mourn the late Council Chairman in a dignified manner.
Mr Chanda has served as Milenge Council Secretary and Kaoma Town Council Secretary before he was elected as Milenge Town Council Chairperson in 2016.
The late Chanda is survived by a wife, nine children and nine grandchildren.
