Mapatizya Formula: UPND ‘Thugs’ Attack Musicians Hired By PF

Using the infamous Mapatizya Formula, opposition UPND cadres have left a Zambian artiste hired by the ruling party unconscious. The cadres who were said to be seven also attempted to rape a female artiste at the weekend.

The two local musicians were attacked for supporting President Lungu ahead of the August 11 general elections.

Oswald Chiti, alias O’blaze, and Cynthia Bwalya, popularly known as Kay Figo, had their vehicle smashed on Friday night in Lusaka’s Chalala residential area.

The UPND cadres allegedly got away with three phones and K3,800 cash Chiti is currently nursing head injuries at a hospital while Ms Bwalya only suffered minor injuries.

He said he and Kay Figo were on their way to pick up Moses Ng’andwe, alias Chester, so that they could travel to Kasama for performances when they were attacked.

Both Chiti and Figo have confirmed the incident. Musicians are now said to be living in fear following the attacks. Zambians artistes have been hired by both the ruling and opposition parties to compose campaign songs as well as perform at rallies.

Mapatizya Formula is a strategy by the UPND applied during elections to drive fear in voters and create apathy during poll day. It was modelled on a contentious by-election that was held in their stronghold Southern Province over 10 years ago.
