The opposition FDD says President Lungu and his political rival Hakainde Hichilema aka HH of the opposition UPND must learn what has happened in Kenya where President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga have resolved to reconcile and unite Kenya.

FDD said this in a press release following landmark developments in Kenya on Saturday:

President Kenyatta with Opposition leader Odinga after having talks

The historic landmark dialogue between Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and that country’s major opposition leader Raila Odinga should serve as a motivating factor for President Lungu and UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to equally embrace dialogue in order to promote national unity and reconciliation.

Zambia is bigger than the two leaders therefore it is important that both of them must bury their hatchet and move the country forward especially that Zambia is a christian nation..

There is no need for politicians to live a cat and rat life to the detriment of our beloved great nation called Zambia.

Moreover,if President Donald Trump has agreed to meet his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong UN, there are no legitimate reasons why the two leaders cannot meet as brothers and discuss issues of national interest.

Therefore, the dialogue process being spearheaded by the Commonwealth through its envoy professor Ibrahim Gambari must be supported by all well meaning Zambians.

Further, the two leaders must put the results of the 2016 general elections behind them for the sake of national building and reconciliation.

We are happy that both parties have agreed to give dialogue a chance which is a major milestone in resolving our political disagreements.

I’m very certain that the majority of Zambians feel that the long awaited dialogue between political stakeholders must not be a window addressing exercise but genuine dialogue which must address critical issues such as the transformation of the electoral rules and the administration of the contentious public order act.

Furthermore, the said dialogue must also address potential areas of conflicts in order to guarantee free, fair and credible 2021 and future general elections.

The dialogue must also deal with political violence which has rocked our political arena of late and I’m confident that political leaders have the power to bring violence to an end if leaders have the political will.

The successful outcome of the dialogue process between the ruling party and the major opposition party will undoubtedly unlock Zambia’s political stability the country is renowned for and further consolidate Zambia’s democratic credentials.

Lastly but not the least, Zambia should continue to be a role model in Africa as an oasis or a beacon of peace and stability.
