A governance activist has anticipated fewer activities in social and economic development this year because most policymakers in government are likely to shift their mind to election campaigns, 2021 being an election year.

Speaking in an interview with Phoenix News, George Chimembe has however called on the government to proactively focus on re-establishing the slowly collapsing economy and the increasing cost of living to regain people’s confidence.

Mr. Chimembe is of the view that in as much as the country is headed for elections, the government should own up and ensure the challenges that the country is facing get the necessary attention instead of focusing on elections at the expense of citizens who are struggling due to a collapsed economy.

He further suggested the need for government, the church, civil society organizations and the general populace to enhance the spirit of dialogue as the country prepares for elections.
