KATUMBI PAYS TRIBUTE TO KINSHASA RESIDENTS

DRC opposition leader Moise Katumbi has paid tribute to residents of the Democratic Republic of Congo capital Kinshasa.

Katumbi says the massive turnout by people at the opposition united rally last Saturday was strong enough message to the ruling coalition that time was up for them.

Katumbi, the former Katanga governor, is alongside Jean Pierre Bemba barred from contesting the December 23, 2018 election.

The election is marred in controversy with the opposition rejecting the machines the government intends to use for voting stating they were untested and impractical for the Congo situation.

Katumbi has mobilised enough support among the key opposition figures to dispute the election outcome with the successful rally in Kinshasa showing signs he had sufficient backing of the people.

“Thanks to the people of Kinshasa for coming in numbers to the meeting of the opposition on Saturday.

“We render thanks to God for the success of the rally. Time for Kabila and his people to leave is now. The election must be credible.

“The opposition has mobilised and is united,” he said.

President Joseph Kabila has nominated Emmanuel Shadary as the candidate for the ruling party but barred four plus candidates including Katumbi, Bemba, three former prime ministers – Samy Badibanga, Adolphe Muzito and Antoine Gizenga – and the only woman candidate, Marie-Josée Ifoku Mputa Mpunga.
