Buteko Market in Mufulira District was on Thursday evening gutted leaving some traders in a state of destsitution after losing everything.

Speaking after touring the gutted facility, Mumba who is an Independent Member of Parliament regretted the incident that had sent families into destitution.

Mumba said the market was a source of livelihood for families in the district which is faced with high unemployment levels

He said has handed over the K 50, 000 to Mufulira Municipal Council to help in identifying affected traders and ensure the resources eases their burden.

“I learnt with grief this calamity, as you can see everything is gone here, and obviously you know that job opportunities have been quiet slow in our district, we are basically a mining town, so if the traders lose the merchandise which they have, as a person in charge of the Constituency I have to deeply get concerned,” he said.

“I shall be giving the Council K 50,000 cash to support those whose merchandise has been destroyed, we are starting from somewhere, these are personal resources as a gesture to help the affected.”
