Kambwili discharged, taken back to Woodlands police

NDC political consultant Chishimba Kambwili has been discharged from Care for Business medical centre in Lusaka where he had been receiving treatment since last week after falling ill in police custody.

Soon after his discharge Kambwili was immediately picked up by state police and driven to Woodlands Police Station under heavy police guard.

Upon arrival at Woodlands Police Station, police officers started firing live ammunition to dispersed Kambwili’s supporters who escorted him to woodlands police station.

The Roan PF Member of Parliament was last week arrested and charged with 37 counts of receiving money believed to be proceeds of crime in the sum of K5, 246, 195 and two counts of taking pecuniary advantage.

But according to the indictment taken to court, Kambwili has been charged with 34 counts of possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

He is alleged to have committed the offences on dates between May 5, 2014 and September 9, 2016.

The money he is accused of possessing were deposited into his different accounts.

By press time, Kambwili was set to appear before magistrate Mwaka Mikalile for plea.

Several high profile political figures including UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema were present at the Lusaka Magistrate Courts to offer solidarity to the former Information Minister.
