Kabwata Comes Alive During Nominations; Gunshots Fired

Lubinda with PF members during campaignsKabwata came alight as three parliamentary candidates did as everyone across the country filed their nominations for the August 11 general elections. Gunshots were fired in Kabwata with Clement Tembo allegedly attempting to disperse cadres.

Incumbent Given Lubinda, civil rights activist, musician Maiko Zulu, Independent Clement Tembo filed their nomination while UPND candidate Mulenga Sata was yet to have his time.

Tembo had his attempt to ride on the PF tide despite being an Independent candidate backfire as some of supporters of the ruling party got incensed by his claim that would back President Edgar Lungu.

The Independent candidate said he would support President Lungu angering Lubinda supporters who did not take the sentiments kindly leading to some skirmishes.

In other parts of the country the exercise had some occasional brushes with more than one candidate turning up with an adoption certificate for the same party as happened in Livingstone.

Mathews Jere of the UPND turned up at the Livingstone Civic Centre where he had an adoption certificate while supporters of Joseph Akafumba were waiting for him to come and file under the UPND ticket.

Lusaka Central PF candidate Margaret Mwanakatwe confirmed her ticket with rival Charlotte Scott of the UPND having also got her ticket going.

The process has seen some last minute entrants that had been overlooked by their political parties either crossing parties or going the Independent route.
